City Desolation |
Mormon 3:5 places the city Desolation by the narrow pass, which was in the narrow neck. It was also close to the city Teancum, as indicated in Mormon 4:3. Given the name of this city, it was either close to, or in the land Desolation. It was also a strategically located city, as the Nephites frequently made stands at the city, to prevent the Lamanites from entering the land Northward. (see Mormon 3:5-6)
I believe the ancient city located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, named Guiengola, is the city Desolation. It is located just north of the Isthmus, which was the land Desolation.
